I have been struggling with this issue for a
very long time, and I feel that after months of gathering my opinion, I am
ready to speak about it.
For a while now teenagers posting that dreaded
status update have bombarded my Facebook:
"Like for a TBH!!!"
Now, I myself am a teenager but I can assure
that I have never participated in a "tbh" (or To Be Honest for those
new to the acronym) and I probably never will for one reason: How stupid they
are.
For instance, every time I see one of those
annoying posts, they always get like 20 likes in 5 minutes because of how
desperate everyone is to find out someone's honest opinion of them. Now, sure
that wouldn't be too bad as long as it was a very honest and important opinion
on the person, but no, it's always the same thing.
Just about every tbh I see always has the same
response. Here is a sample from a number of different tbh's all given by the
same girl.
Can you please notice how in all of them,
she comments on how the girl is pretty? Sure, that's a nice compliment, but that's
not really an opinion on someone. When you first meet someone, the first thing
you notice about someone is his or her looks. However, when you know enough
about someone to develop an honest
opinion of someone, looks should not be important enough to be in the
opinion. I've seen video tbh's (even more stupid and unnecessary) where the dialogue
goes as follows:
"To be honest..._____, you're...um...uh...you're
really, uh, pretty...and...uhmmm...yeah."
SERIOUSLY?
Wow. That definitely shows the person that you have an intelligent and respectable
opinion on them.
People,
do yourselves a favor and stop making tbh's.
