Why Apple, why?

So earlier today I decided I would change my ringtone, y'know, spice it up a bit. After thinking for a bit I decided on using Mall Rat (also known as Buy Mode 1) from the original Sims game. After about 20 minutes of editing the song down to 30 seconds, (it was hard to choose what 30 seconds to use since the song is fantastic.) I exported it into iTunes and plugged my phone in.
So I dragged the file in and I am greeted with this message:

What? Really?
Now I have had my trusty iPhone 3Gs for about 2 years now and when I first go a hold of it, I synced it to my laptop. Last year my laptop kicked the bucket and I got a desktop as a replacement. Now for security reasons, (or some other reason that's probably crap,) you cant sync a device to more than one computer without wiping it. I understand. If someone steals your phone and tries to get info off it they can't. Totally understandable. But there should be a way to bypass it. Like, enter the Apple ID password to the account linked to the device or something that would  prove that the owner is trying to access the device. I can't get to my laptop anymore. It's dead. Gone to laptop Heaven. So there is no way for me to be able to use my phone on this computer without wiping it. And as much as I want the peppy sounds of Mall Rat on my phone, I don't want it that bad.
